I'm ready to take my photography to the next level. I have spent my life scraping by to afford film or a new lens. The last two years have been spent touring America and Mexico, living out of my car, taking photos. I have recently relocated to Santa Cruz, one of my favorite stops in my travels. I am excited by the oppurtunities this city has to offer. There is a lot to learn about the photography business and I am eager to hear any advice that anyone has to offer. More than anything I would like a position working with someone who is willing to teach. I am willing to be a gofor in exchange for knowledge and experience. I am confident in my abilities and one way or another I'm going to make it. I can't be held down forever.
The University of Maryland Diamondback Independent Student Newspaper was one of the best experiences of my life. For a student paper we were pretty bad ass. We put out a twenty page full color paper 5 days a week. As the photo editor I was fortunate enough to shoot many high profile events shoulder to shoulder with the AP, Washington Post and Sports Illustrated. My strong suit was definitely sports, but I exceled in spot news as well.
Brooks Institute of Photography was another pivotale point in my life even though I didn't get the education that the school intended. My first semester I worked in the school studios where I helped upper classmen complete various assignments. My exposure to the high level classes offered me more education faster than any of the classrooms could have. Unfortunatly, personal and financial reasons lead me to withdraw after two semesters. I was, however, able to continue workinfg at the studios where I unofficialy attended classes for another three semesters. Essentially I was able to get five semesters for the price of two; just my way of sticking it to the man.
Now I am interested in exploring photography in just about any direction. Portraiture, journalism, sports, or other oppurtunities are all possibilites. I would just like to push my abilities to the max, learn as much as I can, and achieve a new level of professionalism, all while building my portfolio and resume.
